||Sex drug could aid male stamina
Reported by the BBC April 24, 2002
The drug could enhance men's sexual pleasure.
Scientists believe they are close to developing a pill to boost male stamina,
which could become as popular as Viagra. The drug, used to
treat Parkinson's disease, has been found to raise a man's chances of
sustaining multiple orgasms during sex.
In trials, the drug Cabergoline [brand name: Dostinex] was
prescribed to minimize the effects of the hormone prolactin, which is
produced by men at the point of orgasm.
The hormone has the effect of reducing a man's
desire for more sex by preventing new erections. Normally, the 60 test
people, all healthy males, between the ages of 22 and 31, needed a break
of 19 minutes between love making. However, after taking Cabergoline,
they were able to have several orgasms within a few minutes.
Medical psychologist Manfred Schedlowski, who was involved in the trials
at Essen in
said the drug raised the libido to enable the male to orgasm again more
quickly. He said: "We saw that prolactin rises after orgasm and then thought
maybe prolactin is a negative feedback system.
"Subjects who took this drug had decreased prolactin levels,
and reported their orgasm was better and there was a shorter
"We interviewed these subjects and found they were able to have
multiple orgasms in very rapid succession. "This is sitting very
nicely with our hypothesis that orgasms and sexual drive are steered by
prolactin and dopamine in the brain." Cabergoline has been on the
market in Germany
for several months and is
used to treat Parkinson's disease and prevent women producing milk when
they want to stop breast feeding.
The drug had no side effects on men during
the tests, according to an article to be published in the International
Journal of Impotence Research. The researchers now plan to carry
out trials to investigate whether Cabergoline will have the same effect
on women. The market for drugs like Viagra has swelled and
is thought to be worth about £1bn. It is thought Cabergoline
could have similar potential.
Participants taking Dostinex (Cabergoline) were able to have several
orgasms within a few minutes with orgasms being better.
The medical community also agrees on Dostinex ability to increase libido:
||Cabergoline (Dostinex/Cabaser) vs. Bromocriptine (Parlodel)
A medical study by the Federico II University, Naples, Italy
published in the European Journal Endocrinol 1998 March showed Cabergoline
(brand names: Dostinex/Cabaser) to very potent in increasing libido and
sexual potency. The study examined the Cabergoline (Dostinex) vs. Bromocriptine
(Parlodel). Dostinex (Cabergoline) proved superior in all respects to Parlodel (Bromocriptine ). Seventeen
males with macroprolactinoma were treated with Cabergoline or Bromocriptine
for 6 months. All patients initially suffered from libido impairment,
Ten from reduced sexual potency, and six had infertility.
Before treatment, all patients suffered from low number of erections ,
had a low sperm count with oligoasthenospermia, reduced motility and rapid
progression with abnormal morphology and decreased viability. After 1
month of treatment prolactin levels were significantly reduced in both
groups of patients. After 6 months of treatment, a significant increase
of number, total motility, rapid progression and normal morphology was
recorded in patients treated with Cabergoline and Bromocriptine . A notable
increase in the number of erections during the first 3 months was recorded
and continued throughout the 6 months of treatment. However the improvements
in seminal fluid parameters and sexual function were more evident and
rapid in patients treated with Cabergoline (Dostinex). A significant increase
of serum testosterone and dihydrotestosterone were recorded.
The beginning of treatment, mild side-effects were
recorded in two patients after Cabergoline usage compared to five
Bromocriptine patients who suffered mild-to-moderate side-effects.
Treatment with Cabergoline (Dostinex) normalized prolactin in
levels, improving gonadal and sexual function and fertility males
with prolactinoma, earlier than did Bromocriptine treatment.
Cabergoline provided good tolerability and excellent patient
compliance to medical treatment.
• Dostinex is potent in increasing libido
• Dostinex increases testosterone
• Dostinex is superior in all respects to Parlodel
• Dostinex reduces prolactin levels more than Parlodel does.
• Dostinex acts faster than Parlodel
• Dostinex side-effects are milder (if any), Parlodel side-
effects are more severe and probable
